Panic Network

Storyline in short

Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children is the forthcoming movie title which is scheduled for release in 2005. We are lead to understand that Advent Children will be released on both the Sony PSP and on a standard DVD format, and will consequently not be given a cinema release. It should also be noted that release times may well vary from country to country; it has been suggested that Advent Children would be simultaneously released on a worldwide scale in multiple languages. While an earlier Japanese release seems probable, fans in Europe, North America, and Australia can rest assured that the movie will eventually be released in these regions.

With regards to the Advent Children storyline, we can understand that the film will feature much of the cast from the original Final Fantasy 7. Cloud Strife returns, again in a starring role. It appears that Cloud has been afflicted with the lethal Geostigma virus which is affecting much of the briefly-peaceful world. It has been surmised that Cloud has excluded himself from society, living a lonely and tortured existence. It is presumed that this is as a result of his losing Aeris in Final Fantasy 7, and it also appears likely that he grew quite depressed after saving the planet.

The ever-conscientious Tifa Lockhart is also to play a key role in Advent Children, it seems she will be looking after Marlene (Barret’s adopted daughter) and other children from a nearby orphanage. She is also running the bar 7th Heaven from FF7. It is unclear, at this stage, what part she will actually play in the film, as with many of the characters.

The aforementioned Barret is involved in Advent Children; it is perceived that Barret’s purpose at the beginning of the film is to find a suitable energy source, after Mako power was destroyed. We are not clear whether or not Barret’s role in the movie will be important.
Certain intrigue regarding both Aeris and Sephiroth has come up, as both characters seemingly perished in FF7. While it seems unlikely that they have been resurrected, it is probable that they will appear in the form of a flashback and/or dream. We understand that Sephiroth will not be the main enemy, as he was in the game.

Optional game characters Vincent Valentine and Yuffie Kisaragi will both appear, as will Cid Highwind and Red XIII. Also returning, are Reno, Rude and Zack. It is highly unlikely that Cait Sith will appear in the film.

The three main villains of Advent Children are Yazoo, Kadaj and Loz. All three characters have silver hair and are apparently united against Cloud and company.
